Cristina Sánchez-Andrade is an author who in addition to her writing divides her time between English–Spanish translation, as well as teaching narrative workshops and teaching as a guest speaker at several international universities and literary festivals. She is ranked among the leading female authors of contemporary Spanish literature, her work has been translated into several languages. She wrote eight novels, Die Wintermädchen (Las Inviernas / The Winterlings) was the first of her novels that was translated into German (published by Thiele Verlag in 2016).
Her work has been awarded with several prizes, as e.g. the renowned Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz-Prize for Ya no pisa la tierra tu rey. The author sees herself as a committed Galician. According to the Galician poet Manuel Rivas Cristina Sánchez-Andrade is one of the most extraordinary and inventive voices in Spanish literature.
