Monica’s artistic practice is centered around the intimate and physical exploration of territories that she combines with geological oriented research, looking for a way to connect the invisible to our human scale and perceptions. She is interested in how fiction becomes a way to enter the inaccessible and, paradoxically, allow us to connect to the natural environment in a deeper way.
Monica holds a master degree from the Royal College of Art, London,UK (2010) a degree in Visual Arts from Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2005) and Graphic Design from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (2004), both in Medellín, Colombia.
Monica Naranjo will be part of the Exhibition “From Earth” at Kulturhaus Villa Sträuli ( 16 September to 25 November 2023 ) in collaboration with Swiss artists Joëlle Allet and Oliver Brunko.
"From Earth" is dedicated to ecological, social and systemic concerns and features art created in and with nature. Invited artists explore their relationship with nature, share thoughts on biodiversity and rethink perspectives on the role of humans in the universe away from an anthropocentric view. The exhibition highlights the role of us humans in nature and asks: what natural processes drive life on earth?
