Pedro Cardoso Zylbersztajn
*1993 São Paulo
Visual Artist
Artist in Residence
In his artistic work Zylbersztajn investigates the circular relationship between language, image, protocols of everydayness, technology, and power dynamics. For that, he employs the act of reading as a fundamental process: a strategy to carefully and attentively derive meaning from what is within reach. Pedro’s research is always motivated by the intention of defamiliarising the way in which commonplace devices are utilised to build and enforce specific (and sometimes violent) relations between the different realities that surround us. And, with that, it seeks to create new relational spaces, which are more reliant on.
During his research Residency at Villa Sträuli „Eat the word, chew the meaning, prophesy the taste” he plans to delve into historical and contemporary metaphors comparing reading and textual comprehension to eating and digesting.
Pedro has participated in a number of group shows, art publication fairs, panels and publications in Brazil and internationally.
Pedro’s Residency was made possible thanks to Pro Helvetia, The Swiss Art Council
