Andreas Gysin and Sidi Vanetti work together on research projects since 2000. Their friendship stems back to their first encounter at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Ticino where they teamed up for what would be the first in a long-lasting series of collaborations. Andreas and Sidi combine disciplines from the filed of visual communication, architecture and technology. Recent work explores images and patterns using the geometries of multipurpose displays, urban signage and found or forgotten objects. What characterises their projects is that the intention is to not modify the layout (or visual organisation) of the chosen objects– they work with what the existing has to offer. Within these constraints they search for new visual permutations. Using only the given alphabet, Gysin-Vanetti build images, choreographies and generate new forms.
